Mid-Life

Turned 50! Is 50 mid-life? I hope not... I don't want to live to be a hundred.

So what does this mean to me? It signifies life goes by fast, in a blink of an eye -
  • your children are grown up and need you less and less
  • your life can take a downward turn and yet you can, oh yes you can, bring it back up again
  • you can re-invent yourself, your life, redirect your future, take a gamble and enjoy its payoff
  • you can start anew
  • you see loved ones pass away, generation by generation until yours is the most senior one around
  • you reminisce more and more about your childhood, your family, your school years, how care free and fun those years were
  • you think about growing old, you see yourself grow old
  • you think about retirement and how your later years will be
  • you desire to keep your independence
  • you think about grandchildren and what kind of grandparent you want to be
  • you see your friends looking older and older each year
  • you can't hide the fact that your hair is increasing turning silver
  • you wonder what the last years will be, will I go first?, what if I don't?
  • you wonder how the good Lord will take you

and then you realize that you should not plan tomorrow but, instead, enjoy today. Enjoy as much as you can. Take things easy. Stop to smell the roses.
